PB&J Layers of Charm Lap Quilt

Layers of Charm is a graduation gift for a homeschool friend of my daughter. I had her choose the colors of her quilt, and she wanted robin egg blue and brick red/orange.  There was very little in my stash in those colors, until I remembered the PB&J layer cake which tied those colors together perfectly.  She really liked the brick red fabric, so I used that as the accent squares.

This is the first quilt I've completed on my new longarm machine.  Ever crazy that I am, I practiced an edge to edge digital design once, not bothering to learn how to begin the second row, and then loaded a real quilt.  No problem until it's time to advance the quilt, and you don't know how to tell the computer where the new start point is!  I watched video after video on Handi Quilter's site and YouTube and figured it out after many hours.  And then one has to figure out how to crop the design so it doesn't stitch over the leader.  I spend my evenings watching HQ ProStitcher videos, and it's starting to stick in the brain!  I just need more quilt tops to quilt!

This quilt is entirely from the stash, and would you believe that I have bought ZERO yards of fabric during the month of March?  This hasn't happened in any month for as far back as I can remember.  {{Pats self on back.}}

Layers of Charm has been on my bucket list since it was released a few years ago, so it's nice to check it off.  This is a great pattern for a quick quilt that still has some wow power to it.

This quilt is very pretty. I have lots of charms and I think they would work. I just need to make twice as many blocks as you would with a layer cake. Thanks for sharing.

I see lots of good things with your quilt! You picked a thread that blended in so well and your design looks fun! Looks like you were able to advance the quilt perfectly! I have this layer cake too, but I'm still waiting to find the perfect pattern for it!

What a sweet quilt :-) I'm going to check out that pattern tutorial because this looks like a fun one for a fast quilt.
Kudos for working out the details of your stitcher. I bet there is a lot to figure out to get the stitching placement correct. It's looking beautiful!

Myra - that is a really cute charm pack quilt! Perfect for practicing quilting with the new longarm. And yes, figuring where the next row starts is trouble whether computerized or not. Glad you're enjoying your machine!

Having to learn a new machine cannot be easy, but once you get the hang of it I'm sure it will go faster.

I love those fabrics, such a beautiful quilt. I am like you I tend to jump in and learn by doing, which isn't always a good thing, but it works.

That quilt looks great! You did a wonderful job, especially for a first try on a brand new machine. Congratulations! I hadn't realized how huge they are until you showed the photos of it in your room.

Awesome job figuring it out. Computerized quilting can be intimidating to me. Your quilt is beautiful.
